Earth

Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business hosted the semifinal round– for the eastern U.S. region– of the Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) on February 27.

The GSVC is an opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs a chance for exposure, mentoring and $50,000 in prizes. It was founded in 1999 by MBA students at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. The competition is open to business schools all across the world. In 2014 the organization received 600 submissions from nearly 40 countries. This year, of the 21 teams that reached the semifinal round four were from Georgia Tech. Each year, GSVC culminates with the Global Finals and Conference at Berkeley in April where teams gather from around the world for a day of networking.

Dori Pap, assistant director of Tech’s Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship, who serves as faculty advisor for GSVC, told Scheller News that hosting the semifinals was a sign of things to come.

“Being one of GSVC’s nine global partners — along with the London School of Business, the Indian School of Business, ESSEC Business School, and others – and the host of the U.S. Eastern Region Semifinals reflects Scheller College’s increasing international prominence and Atlanta’s growing status as the social innovation hub of the Southeast.”

The founding partners of GSVC’s semifinal round included Scheller College’s Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship, Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business, and Gray Ghost Ventures. Sponsors included Mosley Ventures, Ronald Blue & Co., Full Circle Living, and Net Impact.
