Ashridge Dean Speaks at Middle East Region’s Largest HR Event

Ashridge Business School is sponsoring the HR Summit and Expo, a two-day event at the Dubai World Trade Centre that invites professionals from the Middle East and worldwide to network, learn and discover developments in the field.

The Expo kicked off on November 16, 2015, with a talk by Dean of Faculty and Director of Research, Dr. Vicki Culpin.

Dr. Culpin’s speech was entitled “Using Neuroscience to Ensure Leaders Thrive and Survive in a Volatile World.” The talk described Culpin’s findings during a decade long research project in which she surveyed hundreds of business leaders with two questions: “Picture yourself 10 years ago, what do you know now that you wish you’d known then?” and “What have been the most critical incidents during your career that have truly shaped and developed you as a leader?”.

Dr. Culpin’s specializes in organizational behavior and issues of well-being in the workplace. Her study revealed the effect of the leaders’ responses to the ‘critical incidents,’ and ways in which these responses led to either professional growth or further conflict. Culpin has conducted other recent studies, which have included the relationship between sleep and well-being and the quality of ‘sleep life’ on management populations. She studied Psychology at Manchester University, and then received her MPhil and PhD in Psychology from Lancaster University. She went on to receive an MSc in Applied Forensic Psychology from Leicester University.
