Cameron Career Day Connects Students with Industry Leaders

Business students at the University of St. Thomas – Cameron School of Business had the opportunity to connect with business leaders in various industries at the inaugural CSB Career Day this March.

The Cameron school already offers students a rigorous curriculum and several networking and mentorship opportunities with professionals. Nevertheless, the CSB Career Day was introduced as an opportunity for students to hear from business professionals across a wide variety of industries and better prepare to enter different career fields.

The event, which took place on March 5th, began with two keynote speakers — Zain Hussain BBA/MBA ‘13 and Mari Salazar ‘95, MBA ‘99 — who encouraged students to take advantage of all of their opportunities in school and to use this time to discover what they are truly passionate about.

Following the speeches, students had the opportunity to join one of two different breakout sessions, depending on their interests. The four speakers involved in these sessions spoke about banking/financial services, the energy industry, the healthcare industry, and the non-profit industry.

Students could then attend panel sessions which discussed a number of different industries and included representatives from such companies as Bank of America Merrill Lynch, ICI, and the PwC.

Dr. Beena George, Cameron School dean, commented on the importance of Career Day as a supplement to the challenging curriculum and other existing student programs.

“The Career Day sessions were intended to provide students with the chance to discover career opportunities and learn how to pursue those opportunities through connecting with alumni and business professionals,” she said.

Dina Alkhamis, current MBA student, was excited to have an opportunity to hear from successful alumni and get a glimpse of what it would be like to work in various industries. “Inviting successful alumni to speak to students, provides proof of the benefits a UST education offers,” she said. “…it is an excellent way of building your networks and job prospects.”
