USC Marshall Students Win Global Consulting Challenge

MBA programs at UTA

A team of MBAs from the USC Marshall School of Business recently won the Overall Challenge and Company Segment of the 2016 Global Consulting Challenge (GCC), held March 3-4, 2016 at Google Inc.’s headquarters in Mountain View, CA.

Now in its 14th year, the GCC is an invitation-only case competition consisting of four weeks of preparation that culminate in the two day long competition.

Teams were presented with complex hypothetical data sets from Google during the preparation of their cases. The USC Marshall team won out over the other eight invited participants with their project, which was a strategy to transform the internal audit process through the use of data analytics.

Professor Suh-Pyng Ku, the team’s faculty adviser said, “I am pleased to report that our students offered a big, bold and sophisticated platform… Effectively, they built a rocket ship.” Suh-Pyng Ku is the vice dean for graduate programs and professor of clinical finance and business economics.

Other participants were Copenhagen Business School, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), University of Chicago’s Booth School , IESE, MIT Sloan School of Management, Yale School of Management, Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, and NYU’s Stern School of Business. Other winners were Copenhagen in the Industry Segment and HKUST in the Consulting Segment.

Team captain Michael Kohl said, “I know I speak for the entire team when I say that the GCC was the most difficult and rewarding part of our business school experience… Everyone from our professors to our classmates to the MBA program staff contributed to this victory. We could not have done this without the support of our Trojan family.”
