California State University, Long Beach College of Business Administration

History

Business studies at California State Long Beach began in 1949 with 24 business students and four faculty members. Business Administration was part of the Social Science Division until 1957, when the division was renamed the Division of Business and Social Sciences. In 1959, the two academic areas split and Business Administration became a division in its own right, with Dr. S. Austen Reep as founding dean.

The Division of Business Administration was upgraded to the School of Business Administration in 1967, and the name was changed to the College of Business Administration in 1992. In 1972, the CBA gained its initial accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International.

Location

A state-of-the-art building for the College of Business Administration, complete with decision support laboratories, classrooms with the latest in technology, multimedia capability, and modern lecture halls, opened in 1991.

The California State University, Long Beach College of Business Administration is located about 25 miles from the Los Angeles international airport.

Faculty

The College of Business Administration is served by approximately 115 full-time and part-time faculty members, all of whom bring practical experience and orientation to enrich a sound conceptual base for their students. The faculty includes 62 tenured and tenure-track faculty and 50 lecturers which ensures both academic excellence and real world experience in the classroom.

Student Body

California State University, Long Beach is home to more than 4,500 undergraduate business majors and around 280 graduate students. About 46 percent of the class are female and 54 percent are male students. The average age is 24 for undergraduate business majors and 30 for MBA students. About 10 percent of students are international.

MBA Degree Offerings

California State University, Long Beach’s College of Business Administration offers three MBA programs designed to accommodate the schedules of students from different walks of life. The programs are: the Evening MBA Program, the Accelerated MBA, and the Saturday MBA. The fourth program, CSU Online MBA, is set to debut in fall of 2019.
