McDonough To Host Event Focused on MBA Diversity

MBA students can come from all sorts of backgrounds and demographics. In order to celebrate the things that make MBAs different, Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business will host “Focus on Diversity” on December 7, 2013. The day-long event allows prospective MBA students to experience the school’s culture of diversity and inclusion. Specifically, the event will feature information for women, underrepresented minorities, LGBT students, and military service members.

During the event, prospective MBAs will be given the opportunity to engage with current students, faculty, alumni, and staff and understand what it means to be a part of McDonough’s diverse community. Fatimah Gilliam from The Azara Group will be delivering keynote address by about “Controlling Your Future through Influencing Skills.”  Additionally, panels will be held throughout the day featuring alumni and current students discussing  topics like “Why Diversity Matters,” “LGBT Identity Disclosure: When the Personal Meets the Professional,” and “How Military Backgrounds Enrich the MBA Experience.” Participants will also be able to attend a mock MBA class and gain insights into the careers, professional development activities and resources available to Georgetown MBA students.

The day concludes with the International Festival, an annual MBA student tradition at McDonough that celebrates the numerous cultures that are part of the community. Students don traditional dress, prepare and share meals from their heritage, and perform cultural dances, among other activities. This family-friendly event is usually a very popular one, so you can expect a crowd of several hundred students, faculty, staff members, and family members to be in attendance.
