The University of California-Berkeley’s Haas School of Business has presented its inaugural Williamson Award to Professor John Morgan. The Williamson Award, named in honor of Nobel Laureate Oliver Williamson, will be the Haas School’s highest faculty award. Recipients of the Williamson award are chosen for exemplifying the behaviors and attitudes that make Haas stand out as an institution. The new award will be bestowed annually by the dean of Haas.
When presenting Morgan with the award, Dean of Haas Rich Lyons said “Prof. Williamson is a scholar whom we all admire. He has been an inspiring teacher for a generation of doctoral students, and a leader both on the UC Berkeley campus and in the wider academic community. As such, he is a powerful exemplar of UC Berkeley’s values of research and creative activity, teaching and service.”
Andrew Rose, the chair of the Faculty and associate dean for Academic Affairs, praised Professor Morgan. “John was a natural and obvious first recipient of this new and prestigious award”, Rose said. “His exemplary research and teaching deserve this highest form of recognition.”
Morgan is the Gary & Sherron Kelbach Chair in Entrepreneurship at Haas. He teaches courses in strategy and game theory, and he serves as faculty director for the Center for Executive Education. He is also the founder of Haas’ Xlab Experimental Social Science Laboratory to support experiment-based investigations in social science research. He belongs to both the Haas Business and Public Policy Group and the Haas Economic Analysis and Policy Group.
