Rutgers-Camden Establishes Leadership Institute

Rutgers University–Camden has established the Leadership Institute, which will connect students to programs, events and other opportunities to enhance their college experience. The Leadership Institute will help students identify their talents, passions and career opportunities through mentoring and advising. The Institute will work in partnership with Rutgers–Camden’s Career Center, the Rutgers University Alumni Association, Civic Scholars program, the Business Leadership Development Program and other initiatives to provide academic and career mentoring for students.

Students participate in the institute for their first two years at Rutgers. Leadership training programs will still be available for students in their junior and senior years. First-year students accepted to the Leadership Institute will receive a scholarship, renewable upon the completion of four Leadership Institute approved activities per semester.

Students that are accepted to the Leadership Institute will be introduced to alumni and community leaders who will provide mentorship and offer insights to the best pathways for success in their majors, careers and life paths. The Leadership Institute will also provide students with leadership skill-building programs, connections to major-specific programming on and off campus, guest lecturers, artists and writers, experiential learning opportunities such as internships, international study trips, community outreach projects and campus activities.

Students that participate in the Leadership Institute have a history of commitment to school or community activities, organizations, community service projects, work and/or leadership experiences. Students who fit this criteria may be invited to join the Leadership Institute during review of applications for admission. Students that are invited to join the Leadership Institute will receive a Leadership Award or be notified of their selection for the Meritorious Achiever Scholarship.
