Ilia D. Dichev, the Goizueta Chair and Professor of Accounting at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School, and his coauthor Patricia M. Dechow, the Donald H. and Ruth F. Seller Chair in Public Accounting at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley have won the 2015 Distinguished Contribution to Accounting Literature Award from the American Accounting Association (AAA). The award was created to recognize research that significantly impacted the accounting discipline over a period of at least five years.
Dichev and Dechow were chosen to receive the award for their paper “The Quality of Accruals and Earnings: The Role of Accrual Estimation Errors.” The AAA presented the award to Dechow and Dichev at the 2015 AAA Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois on August 10, giving the professors unique glass art pieces and a monetary prize.
Professor Dichev’s research focuses on issues in earnings quality, equity valuation, earnings management, dollar-weighted returns, and market efficiency, and his discoveries have been published in several leading journals in economics and finance, in addition to all the top accounting journals. In addition to the 2015 Distinguished Contribution to Accounting Literature Award, Dichev has received several research awards, including the Notible Contribution to the Accounting Literature Award.
Dichev earned a BS in Finance from Santa Clara University in 1991 and received his PhD in accounting from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1995. He was on the faculty of the University of Michigan for 13 years before joining the Goizueta faculty. He has directed the PhD accounting programs at both the University of Michigan and Emory University, and he currently teaches financial accounting and financial statement analysis and valuation at the undergraduate and graduate levels at Emory.
