Robinson Hosts Conference to Examine Growth in the Atlanta Region

On August 27, the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University will host the Economic Forecasting Conference to examine growth in the Atlanta region. Among other things, the conference will examine the job quality and economic growth momentum in Georgia and in other neighboring states.

The director of the Economic Forecasting Center at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Rajeev Dhawan, will deliver a keynote address. In his speech, he will deliver a quarterly focus for Atlanta, for Georgia, and for the nation. He also plans to address the chance that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates, and whether the increase will be agggressive or less aggressive. He will also examine how the regional economy is responding to falling oil prices and drought conditions in the area. Finally, he will discuss whether the dollar will strengthen further or if low inflation is the new norm of the global economy.

The conference program also includes three guest speakers: Gregory Daco, the head of U.S. Macroeconomics at Oxford Economics; Robert Dye, the senior vice president and chief economist at Comerica Bank, and Michael Toma, the director of the Center for Regional Analysis at Armstrong State University. Daco will provide a global economic forecast; Dye will discuss the economies of California, Michigan, and Texas; and Toma will examine Savannah’s economy.

Conference participants must register by Friday, August 21. The conference will be held at Georgia State’s Student Center Building (44 Courtland Street) in Speakers Auditorium from 8:00 am to 12:15 pm on Thursday, August 27, 2015. Visit the event website to learn more or register.
