UH Startups Present New Technologies at Bayou Startup Showcase

Members of the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston community will have the opportunity to pitch their startups to Houston’s tech community during the second annual Bayou Startup Showcase on August 11. The Bayou Startup Showcase is the result of a partnership between the University of Houston’s RED Labs accelerator program and Rice University’s OwlSpark. The event will take place on the campus of the C. T. Bauer College of Business.

RED Labs and OwlSpark first began working together last year for the inaugural Bayou Startup Showcase, and this summer, the two programs shared space in TMCx, a 100,000-square-foot new facility that supports the development of life science companies in the region.

The Bayou Startup Showcase is the final step in a 12-week summer program for RED Labs and OwlSpark teams. At the showcase, teams of students, faculty, and alumni from UH and Rice will present technological solutions to advance progress in several sectors, including collapsible electronic displays and roadside assistance.

“By co-locating with OwlSpark at TMCx, we’ve found many opportunities for OwlSpark and RED Labs teams to work together and help each other throughout the summer,” said Clinical Assistant Professor at Bauer and RED Labs Founder Hesam Panahi. “We’re seeing more founders supporting other founders through the early stages, which is critical.”

The Bayou Startup Showcase is open to the public. For more information about the event, visit the showcase website.
