Cass Business School Hosts CityStarters Startup Weekend

CityStarters

Cass Business School recently kicked off the new academic year with CityStarters Weekend – PG, an event focused on learning, networking and launching new startups.

The free event was open to all post-grad students at City University London, of which Cass is a part. It ran Sept. 25-27, Cass reports. The aim was to bring together students from different areas of expertise who all share a passion for entrepreneurship.

Students participating in CityStarters Weekend worked with coaches and mentors who have already achieved success in the startup world. The group included Cass alumni such as Henrik Ottoson of Invesdor, Lisa Sohanpal of Mini nom nom’s, Philippa Seal of Philippa Seal Business Mentoring and Dan Ridett of Crowdsurfer.

During the weekend, different events taught students how to pitch effectively, identify business opportunities, develop their products, create a business plan, reach customers and attract investors.

Students also formed teams to develop their ideas and present them to judges. The top ideas received awards and prizes. The CityStarters Twitter account reports that the winning startup was Hoodini, with JIY and Archtor as runners-up.

Check out #citystartersweekend on Twitter to get a look at all the action during the event, which was organized by Aurore Hochard, head of entrepreneurship programs at Cass.

Entrepreneurship is woven throughout the Cass experience. Other Cass events focused on entrepreneurship this fall include EntrepreneursTalk@Cass, which, on Oct. 19, will feature Alex Depledge of Hassle.com and Eileen Burbridge of Passion Capital. Students and alumni can also join the Cass Entrepreneurs Network, a community forum in which entrepreneurs at all stages share their experiences and expertise.
