An alumni from The University of Texas at Arlington College of Business has recently set up a scholarship in order to honor his education both at UT Arlington and Cleburne High School in Cleburne, Texas.
Accrediting so much of his success to these two institutions, alumnus Jimmy Campbell and his wife, Cathy, have established the $500,000 Jimmy and Cathy Campbell Endowed Scholarship fund ($250,000 of the funds have been provided by Campbell, with the remainder provided by the school) for graduates of Cleburne High School. The scholarship will provide a student with half-tuition for four years. Eligible students will be in the top 10 percent of graduates and currently earning a bachelor’s degree in any business major within the business school.
Campbell, currently the regional president of Fort Worth-based Northstar Bank, first became involved in finance as a part-time teller while an undergraduate at UTA in 1970. He went on to receive an MBA from UTA’s College of Business in 1980, after which he began his role as president with Northstar. Campbell’s record of experience in business extends before his time at Northstar Bank, with experience as president/CEO of the independently owned Community bank and senior vice president of Bank of North Texas/First Interstate/Wells Fargo Bank. Here he established the Small Business Administration lending department, which aceived fifth largest in the U.S. in 1994 and ‘95.
Dean of UTA College of Business, Rachel Croson, commented on the benefits of Campbell’s scholarship, which would allow qualified students to attend college that might otherwise not have the financial means. “We are truly grateful for this gift from our alumnus Jimmy Campbell and his wife, Cathy,” she said. “The scholarship will create significant value for Cleburne High School, for UT Arlington, and most importantly, for the students whose hard work will earn this honor.”
Jimmy and Cathy Campbell’s UTA legacy has continued, with their son, Brett, graduating from the UTA College of Business in 1997. Campbell continues to offer advice and guidance to UTA students, frequently serving as a guest speaker at the college.
