Northeastern Names New Vice Provost for Research

Northeastern University has announced that Arthur F. Kramer will become the school’s new senior vice provost for research starting in May.

Kramer, who comes to Northeastern from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will succeed Mel Bernstein in the role, according to a press release from Northeastern.

Kramer comes to Northeastern as the university prepares to open its Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex. His experiences at the University of Illinois are very relevant to this new launch. There, Kramer directs the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology and led the university’s intelligent human computer interaction group.

At Northeastern, Kramer will help the university continue to elevate its research portfolio, which has more than doubled over the past nine years.

“I am looking forward to working collaboratively with the faculty, staff, students, and administration to further promote Northeastern’s distinctive research and educational culture, with a commitment to use-inspired, solution-focused research,” Kramer said in the Northeastern press release. “Clearly, Northeastern is at the threshold of devising additional novel interdisciplinary solutions to important societal challenges, and it is an honor and a privilege to assist the faculty, students, and staff in these important endeavors.”

At Northeastern’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business, strategic research themes include international business and strategy, entrepreneurship and innovation, corporate governance and healthcare, according to the school’s website. Its research centers and institutes include the Business Sustainability Initiative, the Center For Family Business, the Center for Emerging Markets, the Center for Entrepreneurship Education, the Center for Health Policy and Healthcare Research, the Center for Workforce Analytics, the Institute for Global Innovation Management and the Social Enterprise Institute.
