Wilfrid Laurier Ranked as 5th Best Canadian University for Sports and Recreation

In a recent study by the UniversityHub, which asked more than 1,000 Canadian students to rate their university’s sports and recreation facilities, Wilfrid Laurier University ranked in the top five. The University is renowned for its school spirit, number of varsity student-athletes, and top-notch facilities.

The study, published in the Huffington Post, discussed the top five reasons for WLU Toronto and Waterloo’s ranking.

  1. Facilities and Equipment

Students at the School have the opportunity to enjoy a newly renovated two-story, glass-walled Athletic Complex (AC). The complex features an Olympic-sized pool, state-of-the-art studios for dance and aerobics, a large fitness center, three-court gymnasium, squash courts, and a rock-climbing wall.

  1. Fitness and Recreation

WLU Toronto and Waterloo also offer personal training, dance, group exercise classes, swimming lessons, first-aid training, and an extensive selection of intramural sports. Plus, at the beginning of each semester, the University offers free sessions so that students can try out the different offerings.

  1. Varsity Events

WLU Toronto and Waterloo is well known for its varsity events. There’s the O-Week football game as well as the Homecoming football game and the Winter Carnival, which kicks off Laurier’s basketball and hockey teams.

  1. Sport Clubs

WLU Toronto and Waterloo students are notorious when it comes to sports and organizations. Over 500 students participate in a wide variety of sport clubs including the Dragon Boat Club, Competitive Dance, and Canoe and Kayak Club.

  1. Varsity Sports

Over 500 varsity student-athletes represent WLU Toronto and Waterloo. Laurier also has a history of 13 National Championships and 67 Provincial Championships.

In addition to its world-class sports and recreation, Laurier was also just recognized as the top choice for students seeking a high-quality experience in Canada, according to Ontario Universities’ Application Center (OUAC). The number of Ontario high school students who applied to Laurier for full-time studies rose 11.3% over last year.

As for WLU Toronto’s MBA program, students can attend a Part-Time Alternate Weekend MBA at one of the largest business schools in Canada.
