As part of its Center for Management Communication Speaker Series, the USC Marshall School of Business will host Jenny Ming, former president of Old Navy and current CEO of Charlotte Russe.

The talk will take place on April 21, 2016, and will be hosted by James Owens, associate professor of clinical management communication at USC Marshall.

Ming will discuss the importance of effective communication in executive leadership and other strategies for successful team management. In addition to her role at Charlotte Russe, Ming is a founding advisory board member of children’s literacy charity The World is Just a Book Away, which was founded by Professor Owens in 2008.

Owens said of the upcoming talk, “Jenny has always cited strong communications as key to success in business… And she has a riveting personal story to relate as well. I expect this will be a very engaging and informative talk.”

Ming was born in Macau and grew up in San Francisco. She studied fashion merchandising and business at San Jose State University. After being recruited by Gap, Inc., Jenny quickly advanced through the ranks, eventually becoming part of the executive team that launched Old Navy in 1994. She became the division’s president in 1999, and was at the helm as it eclipsed the Gap in earnings. She joined Charlotte Russe in 2009.

Ming sits on the boards of Levi Strauss & Co. and Barney’s New York. She has been named by Fortune magazine as one of the 50 must powerful women in American business.
