Haub School of Business to Host Yuengling Family for Upcoming Event

Yuengling

On September 27, 2016, St. Joseph’s University’s Haub School of Business (HSB) Alumni Association will host an engaging discussion with the leaders of one of the region’s most well-known companies.

Richard Yuengling, Jr., the fifth generation owner of D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., will join his daughters Jennifer Yuengling-Franquet and Wendy Yuengling Baker for the discussion.

The attendees of the alumni event will learn about the evolution of product and the rich management skills that work to make it successful, as well as the approach to operating a highly lucrative family business, which has its own inherent challenges.

In reference to a question about whether the now lucrative and successful company was actually still family owned, their website noted, “Dick’s passion is in the plant: the brew house, on the bottling line and at the truck docks. However, he can be found in the lab for his morning coffee followed by daily visits to each department.”

Dick Yuengling Jr. purchased the family business from his father in 1985, and at this time production volume and sales figures were relatively low. The elder Yuengling had been ill, and the company had not been investing a lot in marketing and sales strategy.

Yuengling Jr.’s leadership led the company to become one of the greatest success stories in the region, with growth of over twenty times the size that it was prior to his ownership. Each of his four daughters now work full time at the brewery. During the talk, Wendy and Jennifer will be sure to discuss the nature of their workplace and their roles in the continued success of the company.
