Lerner Professor to Speak on the Resilience of Women Entrepreneurs

The University of Delaware’s Lerner College of Business has an event scheduled later this month likely to be of particular interest to female MBAs seeking a future in entrepreneurship. Lerner Assistant Professor of Management Amanda Bullough will lead a talk entitled “Women Entrepreneurs: Building Resilience and Reducing Fear through Business Ownership” on October 26th.

Bullough’s research focus is on organizational behavior and theory leadership across cultures and how they affect global business. Her presentation is part of the school’s Department of Women’s and Gender Studies’ Fall Lecture Series.

Examining the ways in which women conquer adversity in entrepreneurial settings, Bullough will address various pertinent questions. Among them: “Is there something about engaging in entrepreneurship that causes women in adverse environments to become more or less fearful; does she feel more emboldened as a business owner?”

Bullough has researched women entrepreneurs in many parts of the world, including Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as in U.S. cities such as Chicago, all of which she will touch on during the discussion.

The ways in which women handle extremely adverse conditions, including those in actual war zones, have been a recurring theme throughout Bullough’s work. She will share some of her findings with regard to war-zone situations, as well as some of the more day-to-day conflicts women confront in U.S. workplaces.

In addition to the Middle East, Bullough has researched women’s roles in business in Algeria, Mexico, Thailand, Finland and China.
