The Baylor University—Hankamer School of Business‘ Robbins Institute for Health Policy and Leadership recently hosted the 2nd Annual Robbins Case Competition in Healthcare Management, gathering graduate students from across the country for the competition.

According to Scott Garner, the Robbins Institute administrative director, the competition provides a “forum for master’s-level students to participate in a national case competition in healthcare management with a distinct financial emphasis.”

Teams came from all over the nation from Oct. 19-21 to compete, including students from such top schools as George Washington University, Saint Louis University, Ohio State University, Xavier University and many other highly ranked schools.

The Baylor University team, made up of Courtni Bauer, Andrew Orr and Jenn Odekon, took top prize at the competition, receiving national recognition for their success as well as $12,000. The second place winner, from the University of Washington, took home $8,000, and the third place winners from Ohio State University earned $4,000.

Specialty awards for best presenters and best question and answer were also awarded to students in the form of a $500 monetary prize. Jenn Odekon from Baylor took home the prize for her presentation, along with Benjamin Chao from the University of Washington and Marki Travelstead from Xavier University.

“The competition allows the students to meet and network across universities and with healthcare industry professionals who serve as judges, case developers and competition sponsors,” said the Robbins Institute’s associate administrative director Tom Haines.

“It enables academic-industry partnerships to be formed and creates a valuable transfer of knowledge from healthcare professionals to students and faculty.”
