Robinson Economic Forecasting Director Honored by Federal Reserve

Robinson Economic Forecasting Director

Georgia State University – J. Mack Robinson College of Business faculty member Rajeev Dhawan was recently recognized for providing the best real gross domestic product (GDP) at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago’s 2016 Automative Outlook Symposium.

Dhawan currently serves as the Director of the Economic Forecasting Center at Robinson. The center is located in the heart of Atlanta’s downtown business area and focuses on analyzing the economy as well as trade, prices and interest rates. It is one of the few university-based centers in the country focusing on the practice. Dhawan serves both as the center’s director and holds the Zwerner Chair of Economic Forecasting at Robinson. He is responsible for developing forecasts for the Southeast regional and Atlanta economies, as well as the U.S. economy at large.

Dhawan is no stranger to recognition. In 2003, the director was named by The Bank One Economic Outlook Center at Arizona State University as the most accurate forecaster for U.S. employment. In Georgia Trend magazine, he has been listed among the “100 Most Influential Georgians” for three years in a row.

The annual Automotive Outlook Symposium took place this year at the Detroit branch of the Chicago Fed, focusing on forces that shape the vehicle industry. At the 2016 symposium, Dhawan was among 27 economists who offered their forecasts for the real GDP in 2016. At this year’s event, Dhawan was recognized with a certificate of forecasting excellence for that prediction.

Dhawan has been with Robinson since 2000 and in that time has offered 66 quarterly economic forecasts for Atlanta, Georgia state and the greater U.S.
