Terry Alumni profiled in P&Q

Businessman

As part of a series titled 2015 MBA to Watch, the MBA website Poets and Quants profiled University of Georgia Terry College of Business alumni Robert McMahan Woods.

Woods has a rather courageous story leading up to his MBA career. Three years before attending Terry, Woods suffered a traumatic brain injury after being shot in Afghanistan. The injury cost him nearly 30 IQ points and required him to relearn student basics like studying and taking notes.

While attending Terry, Woods received the Frances Wood Wilson Foundation Scholarship and the Chandler and Pat Barton MBA Scholarship. Since his graduation he has founded his own investment firm in Athens, BMWoods.

The profile at P&Q is in a question an answer format. Below are a few selections from Woods’ responses. To read the complete profile, check out Jeff Schmitt’s piece here.

Why did you choose this business school? They have a top-notch business school and yet they had compassion to assist me with my special needs due to my recent combat traumatic brain injury.

What did you enjoy most about business school? This school fosters an environment where students feel safe to share and learn from everyone’s real world experiences.

What is your most memorable moment from business school? My most memorable moment was the moment I realized that I would be applying much of what I learned as I began my own business while a student.

Fun fact about yourself: I am a huge Darth Vader fan and have quite a collection of memorabilia from childhood till today.
