Schulich Offers New Opportunities for Accounting MBA

York University’s Schulich School of Business MBA and Master of Accounting students now have a new pathway to success. Thanks to a partnership with the Global Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), graduate accounting students will be able to focus their education as to directly enter Professional Level exams after graduation.

The partnership with the ACCA will also be beneficial for undergraduate students. It will provide them with advanced standing, which will allow them to more quickly complete their Schulich MBA or Master of Accounting degree. The ACCA partnership is a new addition on top of Schulich’s official accreditation with the Canadian accountancy body.

In a press release from the University, Marcia Annisette, the Program Director of the Master of Accounting program spoke about the new partnership.

“The ACCA accreditation means that Schulich students who are enrolled in the School’s Master of Accounting program and MBA accounting specialization will have a more direct route to achieve a globally recognized professional accounting designation, which is recognized in 80 countries around the world,” she said.

Schulich’s MBA in Accounting

The Schulich MBA offers professional designations to help prepare students for either a CPA or ACCA designation. To earn one of these designations, students must enroll full-time in the fall.

Also, MBA students can specialize their MBA degree in Accounting. The specialization includes electives in financial accounting, managerial accounting, taxation, and auditing. The specialization can be used on its own to help students become CPA or ACCA accredited, or it can be combined with a JD or Ph.D. program.

After earning an MBA with a specialization in Accounting, students can go on to pursue careers in public accounting or corporate finance. Common job titles after graduation include public accountant, Chief Financial Officer, lending officer, and underwriter.
