Foster Alumna Makes Waves in Healthcare Solutions and Roller Derby

The University of Washington’s Foster School of Business recently published an article on alumna Molly Moore (MBA ’12) and how her unique position in the healthcare arena coupled with a “meteoric rise in Seattle’s roller derby scene” made her the ideal celebrity spokesperson for the “Powered by Foster” campaign. The advertising campaign helps showcase the school’s work-compatible MBA programs.

After 17 years “negotiating provider contracts and managing specialty provider networks for major health insurance players,” Moore enrolled in Foster’s Evening MBA Program to “expand her possibilities” in healthcare, which she describes as “a massive market opportunity and a great place for innovation.”

Moore currently leads business development as “creator of opportunities” and “strategic matchmaker” for Direct Health Solutions, a division of Cambia Health Solutions within Regence BlueShield that “invests in companies leveraging innovative technologies.” Cambia Health’s downtown 9,000-square-foot incubator The Cambia Grove has reportedly become a “hub for innovation activity across the Northwest.”

Moore evaluates and advises on Cambia’s investments, including ventures ranging from “SpendWell, an online marketplace for people on high-deductible health plans, to Wildflower Health, a mobile app to help new moms manage care.” She also works to connect entrepreneurs, providers, insurers and consumers.

An “avid skater as a kid,” Moore rekindled her childhood obsession passion by picking up a pair of high-end skates with her 2012 tax refund. After an encounter with the Rat City Rollergirls, Moore reportedly “picked up a helmet and pads and gave it a whirl.”

She was quickly drafted by the Derby Liberation Front as a blocker, skating under the nom de plume “Violent Beauregard.”

In addition to reinforcing the Foster virtues of “teamwork, confidence, resilience and receptiveness,” Moore loves how much roller dreby relieves the day-to-day tension of life in healthcare. “I love being on my skates, I love hitting people, I love the community.”
