Experienced managers with an eye for sustainability should take note of the Saturday Master of Business Administration (SMBA) degree at the California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) business school. Focusing on sustainable practices for both domestic and international businesses, the CSULB SMBA gives management students a more direct path towards future business success.

Beginning in the fall, classes for the program are held exclusively on Saturdays. The entire program can be completed within 23 months. Students, who become part of a very carefully selected group, must have at least three years of work experience prior to enrollment. Most students enrolled in the SMBA, however, have significantly more experience. Members of the 2016 class joined with an average of 12 years of professional work experience.

“Passionate faculty, along with presentations from industry leaders who are applying sustainable business practices, has taught me about all aspects of this field,” said Dean Heiss, an SMBA student. “This has enabled me to not only get a promotion into senior management, but also leverage my understanding and passion for the triple bottom line of economy, environment and society. This has given me a competitive advantage over others in the field.”

Students in the SMBA, like Heiss, also have an opportunity to diversify their experiences abroad. Included within the program is a mandatory three-unit study abroad experience, where students work hand-in-hand with international businesses that need assistance. Previous trips have taken place in countries like Chile, Portugal and Morocco.

The cost-efficient program is just $1,000 per unit, totaling $48,000. Considering that many other MBA options can run far beyond $100,000 in tuition alone, the value of CSULB’s SMBA more than sells itself. In addition, students in the program are offered exceptional career services, including expansive networking opportunities, connections to hundreds of CSULB alumni, and access to many industry events and career fairs.
