Earlier this month, a team of MBAs from the USC Marshall School of Business won the Deloitte Human Capital Case Competition. The competition was hosted by Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management and featured a top prize of $10,000, according to a press release.

“We could not be more proud of the Deloitte Human Capital team,” said class of 2018 Co-Director Jessica Ayers (MBA ’18). “They’ve brought home our first national competition win of the school year, which we hope to make one of many very soon.”

The USC team was comprised of Brian Han (MBA ’19), Stephanie Tandean (MBA ’19), Sonali Vasu (MBA ’19), and George Wu (MBA ’18). They were up against teams from 11 other business schools, including the UT McCombs School of Business, the Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management, and Michigan’s Ross School of Business.

This was the seventh competition completed by Marshall business students so far this semester: Marshall hosted the AT&T Case Competition in September with a grand prize of $1,000. The winning team included Rory Fitzpatrick (MBA ’19), Jia-Kai Jhou (MBA ’19), Daniel McCartney (MBA ’19), and Matthew Schroyer (MBA ’19).

A Marshall team also advanced to the final round of the Deloitte Supply Chain case competition, with the opportunity to win $10,000 and a chance to interview for a summer Associate position. Team members were Faris Al-Faadhel (MBA ’19), Audrey Cheng (MBA ’19), Siddarth Joshi (MBA ’19), and Christopher Pyon (MBA ’19).

“We are seeing such a strong start as a direct result of our efforts to support students competing in these competitions,” Suh-Pyng Ku, Vice Dean for Graduate Programs and professor of clinical finance and business economics, said. “The time and resources we’ve put into the program are clearly paying dividends.”

The Marshall Business Competition Program was introduced in 2012 as a way to make case competitions a normal part of the MBA extra-curricular schedule. The program is supported by a grant from the Lord Foundation.

“We’ve had strong success with the MBCP,” said Tonisha Jester, Associate director, Student Programs. “We anticipate providing eight internal competitions and between 25 and 30 external case competition opportunities for the 2017-18 school year.”
