Leavey to Host Boomer Venture Summit Competition

Leavey School of Business will be holding the 2015 Silicon Valley Boomer Venture Summit Business Competition on June 30 in the Recital Hall at Santa Clara University, according to a press release from the school.

The event has been put on every year since 2004 by Mary Furlong and Associates so that entrepreneurs, leaders in the aging field, and the venture community can come together to create a forum to explore, share, and design products that might dominate the boomer market in the years to come. Mary Furlong is also an Executive Professor of Entrepreneurship at Santa Clara University. Norman Lear, famed producer, creator, and scriptwriter, will be delivering the keynote speech at the event. Other speakers will be in attendance offering their perspectives on the idea of “Surfing the Longevity Economy.”

Six finalists, including one MBA candidate from Leavey, will have a chance to pitch their business plans targeting the 50 and older demographic at the competition. Jennifer Wirowek, the MBA candidate at Leavey, will be presenting Bonaventure Water, a company that provides magnesium-rich water to older adults who are suffering from age-related deficiencies. Other presentations include: Accel Diagnostics, a company that enables remote monitoring and management of cardiac health and allows patients to perform blood analysis with a credit card-sized test in the comfort of their own home; Independent Living, a company that focuses on providing customized solutions so that people may live in their home for a lifetime; Luna Lights, an automated night light system that utilizes cloud analytics to help prevent and detect falls in the elderly; müvr, a company that helps patients achieve the best results with their knee surgeries; Vynca, a care coordination and population management software for advanced care planning. The prize for the winner of the competition is $10,000
