Rice University Full-Time MBA Program Structure

The Rice University full-time MBA program lasts for 22 months and features courses in finance, accounting, data analysis, and marketing, allowing students to get a broad understanding of business foundations. Concentrations in the MBA programs are only allowed for full-time MBA students.

Curriculum

Rice University full-time MBA students are required to complete 60 credits for graduation . First-year students in the full-time program participate in foundation courses that will build the skills required to succeed in a business management role as part of the core curriculum. The core classes include the following foundational building blocks for tomorrow’s business leaders: data analysis, finance, managerial economics, marketing, financial accounting, strategy formulation and implementation, ethics, organizational behavior, communications and more.

During the second year of the program, students will participate strictly in elective courses. Second-year students have more than 100 electives to choose from. Areas of study as electives include managerial accounting, corporate responsibility, government relations, operations management, portfolio management, applied predictive modeling, applied risk management, energy derivatives, corporate real estate, brand strategy, business law and more. The second year is when students have the opportunity to focus their curriculum on a concentration for their MBA degree.

Concentrations for the full-time program include accounting, energy, entrepreneurship, finance, healthcare, marketing, operations management, real estate and strategic management.

Rice Business has STEM designation for all its MBA programs.

Class Profile

According to recent data provided by Rice Business, there are 174 incoming students enrolled in the full-time MBA program. ~35 % of the full-time MBA class are women, ~21 % are underrepresented minority students, and ~15% international students. These students earned an average GMAT score of 689 and a GPA of 3.4. The average age is 27 years old, and the average work experience is ~5 years.

Career Statistics

The most recent graduating class received an average base salary of $123,786. Students accepted jobs in three industries in nearly equal percentages: consulting claimed 24.5%, followed by financial services at 22.3%, and technology at 20.2%. Around 13% of students went into the petroleum/energy field after graduation and just over 5.8% into healthcare. As is common for post-MBA placement, Rice placed nearly 66% of graduates into jobs in its own region, the Southwest. 88.8% accepted offers within three months of graduation and 100% of first year MBA students landed an internship. 74% of students accepted job offers through school-related activities.

Tuition, Scholarships, and Financial Aid

The projected tuition and fees for the Rice Business Full-Time MBA program are $63,500 in the first year of the program. Students will pay a $2,500 deposit and will pay for half of their tuition in each of the first and second semesters. All payments may be covered by the use of personal resources, financial aid and private loans. Semester Payment Plans are also available through the Cashier’s Office.

Scholarships are available to those applying to the Rice Business Full-Time MBA program. Rice has a limited number of scholarships available for students, which are awarded based on academic merit. All students are automatically considered for a scholarship. Over 75% of the most recent incoming class of full-time MBA students at Rice received some merit-based or name scholarships with the average award covering over 50% of tuition costs.

Admissions

To be considered for admission to the Rice Business Full-Time MBA Program, applicants must complete the following steps for application:

Complete an online application, required personal essays, a professional resume and submit official test scores to the Jones School (GMAT, GRE, TOEFL, or PTE Academic). Full-Time MBA candidates may be eligible for a standardized test waiver. For more information, please complete the GMAT Waiver Request Form.

Applicants are also required to provide one confidential, professional recommendation submitted to the admissions office provided that the recommendation is from the applicant’s current, direct supervisor. If the recommendation is not from a current supervisor, applicants are required to submit two confidential recommendations. Applicants also need to provide official transcripts from all degree-granting institutions.

There is a $200 application fee payable online or by check.
