Southern Methodist Full-Time MBA Program Structure

The Southern Methodist University full-time MBA at the Cox School of Business is a 22-month, 65 credit hour program that provides students the opportunity to focus their learning with a variety of concentration options.

Curriculum

During the first year of study, Southern Methodist full-time MBA students focus on a wide variety of knowledge and skill development.

Students complete 18 credits during the fall and spring of their first year. They are required to complete an internship for one credit during the summer between the first and second year. During the second year, students will complete the remaining credit hours through completing elective courses. Students complete 14 credits during the fall and spring semesters of the second year of the program.

Students also have the option of customizing their education by completing up to two concentrations in addition to the MBA program. All full-time students are automatically enrolled in the General Business concentration. Concentration options include accounting, business analytics, finance, general business, information technology and operations management, management , marketing, real estate and strategy and entrepreneurship. Students complete these concentrations during the spring semester of their first year and the second year in the program through the completion of elective courses.

Students can also participate in the international exchange program at Cox. Countries that students can travel to include China, Australia, Denmark and Mexico.

Class Profile

The full-time MBA Class of 2018 is made up of 115 students. The average GMAT score is 662 with an average GPA of 3.31. Students also have an average of four years of working experience. Twelve percent of students in the class are international students, 20 percent identify as a being part of a minority group and 35 percent are women.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The full estimated student tuition for new full-time students $76,421. This is a nine-month estimate that includes the cost of tuition ($45,976), living expenses, books and supplies, as well as other program fees, health insurance and other miscellaneous expenses that students may face during the program.

The Cox Distinguished MBA Scholars Program is the most competitive scholarship program at Cox. This is a highly selective program that awards full-tuition scholarships each year to five MBA candidates.

Southern Methodist University also offers students several options to pay for costs and fees monthly.

The school also provides scholarship awards to more than half of its students, with awards ranging from 10-to-100 percent of tuition and fees. There are also a variety of loan opportunities available for students. Cox participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program, which provides funding for veterans.
The school accepts federal student loans, private loans and private scholarships. Admissions and Financial Aid representatives at Cox are available to help students with the process of securing all necessary funding to attend the Cox MBA program.

Admissions Procedures

In order to be considered for admission at the Cox School of Business, applicants must complete the following steps for application:

Submit the application forms found in the online application, provide a copy of their professional résumé, complete two essays (topics available online), submit GMAT or GRE scores, provide copies of undergraduate transcripts and provide two professional references (names and contact information only).

International applicants must also provide TOEFL, IELTS or Pearson Test of English scores (if applicable).

Applicants for the MBA program at the Cox School of Business are required to take the GMAT or GRE, though most take the GMAT. The average GMAT score of students in the program is between 590 and 710. Applicants must also possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution. Students are also required to have a minimum of two years of full-time work experience, with most accepted students having between three and five years experience.

The Cox School does not require applicants to pay an application fee.
