George Washington University Announces Projects for Consulting Abroad Program

Since 2009, George Washington University has been offering its students the chance to practice their consulting skills abroad.  This year students will be able to choose from programs in Mumbai, India; Lima, Peru; Kigali, Rwanda; Gothenburg, Stockholm; Vasteras, Sweden; and Istanbul, Turkey.

“We’re continuing the tradition of preparing our students for an international workplace,” Bryan Andriano, GWSB’s director of international education, said in a recent press release.  “From clean-tech in Sweden to sustainable development in the Amazon basin, we’re also ensuring that our students have hands-on experience with cutting-edge fields in business.”

Like other schools in the DC area, George Washington is looking to offer students a wider range of global options and expanded consulting experience.  However, it has gone farther by making it a requirement of all first-year students at the school.

In the Spring semester, students are required to take a three course sequence, beginning with an International Management course on campus, students must then take an International Consultancy Practicum Lab, also on campus, in preparation for the International Consultancy Project.  In Mid-May, students depart with faculty to partner businesses and organizations.  After a two week stay in the country and finalizing their work, students present their findings to the partner organization.

In the fall, students choose which programs they would most like to participate in by order of interest, and the whole program takes nine weeks in the spring.
