McDonough MBAs Travel Through Career Treks Program

MBA students at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business recently spent a week-long break between classes traveling domestically to network and learn about specific industries through Career Treks.

The industries were each broken down into different groups: The Entrepreneurship group, the Consulting group, the Finance group, the Marketing group.

The Entrepreneurship group, led by Michael Pavey, M ’14, was made up of 15 individuals traveling from Washington, DC to New York City to build bridges between the academic and business worlds while structuring a network for post-MBA opportunities. Participants met with representatives from Monumental Sports, Acceleprise, Personal.com, Sweetgreen, Venga, Revolution, and HelloWallet in Washington, DC.  In New York City, they met with representatives from CardFlight, Scout Ventures, Beanstock Media and Socratic Labs.

The Consulting group, led by Shah Kabir, M ’14, included 75 first-year students. The marketing students heard from keynote speakers from Deloitte and Accenture. During their travel day to New York City they met with representatives from Cognizant, PwC, American Express and Deloitte.

The Finance group, led by Peter Harris, M ’14, was comprised of 91 students. They attended meetings with 25 firms across investment banking, real estate finance, private equity, asset management and corporate finance. The ultimate goal was to give students an opportunity to learn about the different areas of finance, meet alumni, determine which firms they like and meet potential employers.

The Marketing group, led by Kerri Westfield, included 50 students on a three-day trip to New York City to learn about marketing careers and develop valuable relationships with recruiters, alumni, and other employees. The students met with representatives from Moxie Interactive, Michael Kors, Pepsico, American Express, Bayer and Citibank.

Students at McDonough are encouraged to create opportunities through a variety of professional treks which promote interaction and networking with alumni and other important leaders within the business community.
