Georgetown Center for Financial Markets and Policy Appoints Distinguished Policy Fellow

Georgetown McDonough School of Business’ Center for Financial Markets and Policy has named Natwar Gandhi, former chief financial officer for the District of Columbia, as a Distinguished Policy Fellow.

“We will benefit tremendously from Natwar Gandhi’s extensive experience in the public sector,” said Reena Aggarwal, director of the Center for Financial Markets and Policy and professor of finance. “Our shared objective is to engage leading academics, business people, and policymakers in dialogue regarding critical public policy issues relating to global financial markets. We look forward to welcoming him to our team.”

Gandhi built on the DC’s financial progress by securing multiple rating upgrades from the major rating agencies for its golden obligation bonds. He worked closely with congressional committees and the U.S. Office of Management and Budget Staff that oversees District affairs.

In 2007, Gandhi was named one of Governing Magazine’s Public Officials of the Year and Washingtonian magazine’s 150 most powerful public officials. He also was named one of Washingtonian’s 2006 Washingtonians of the Year and was a recipient of the Association of Government Accountants’ 2007 Distinguished Local Government Leadership Award. Other honors bestowed upon Gandhi include The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation Meritorious Leadership Award, the DC Chamber of Commerce Impact Award, and Achievement of the Year Awards from the AGA. He also received the President’s Award from the Greater Washington Society of CPAs in 2000, and Distinguished Service and Meritorious Service Award from GAO.
