McDonough Hosts Annual International Festival
McDonough School of Business MBAs and faculty gathered in Fisher Colloquium for the school’s annual International Festival. Hosted by the MBA Student Government Association (SGA), the event showcases many of the international cultures represented at Georgetown McDonough.
Sam Chen (M ’15), vice president of international students in the MBA SGA, wanted the night to bring the school’s community together:
“What I like about the event is its fun atmosphere,” Chen said. “It’s a little bit different from other events we have at the McDonough School of Business, as you get to watch performances featuring your classmates and sample foods they prepared.”
Student volunteers served regional dishes from 22 different countries, including South Korea and Greenland. Students staffing the South Korean table prepared bulgogi, a traditional marinated beef dish, japchae, clear noodles with vegetables, and California rolls. Guests welcomed to the Greenland table were greeted with a snow bunting soup commonly found in the country. After dinner was served, 12 groups of students participated in traditional dances and performances from their home countries.
All in all, Chen described the night a success. The event sold out, with about 370 members of the McDonough community in attendance. He noted that this year, the planners tried to make the event even more international.
“We tried to be as inclusive as we could so everyone, even domestic students, could have fun and laugh together,” Chen said. “I am happy that really worked, telling by the feedback I have received thus far.”
