ALUMNI PROFILE: Robert Hubbell, GWSB MBA’81

Robert Hubbell, George Washington School of Business MBA’81, recently left his post in The Big Apple as Managing Director of Global Communications and Marketing at Cantor Fitzgerald for the tranquil mountains of Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley. There he works as an advisor to Coastal Risk Consulting—a start-up whose proprietary software is helping homeowners, business communities and government entities in U.S. coastal zones become climate ready and storm safe. CRC’s holistic and multi-disciplinary “dream team” of experts help provide organizations with cost-effective and real-world solutions to today’s climate change challenges.

At CRC, Hubbell develops all aspects of the company’s profile with seed-round investors, retail and wholesale market participants, and environmental and financial media. As a Partner and Managing Director, Global Communications & Marketing with Cantor Fitzgerald and BGC Partners, Inc., he was responsible for planning and executing comprehensive, strategic branding and positioning initiatives, marketing communications, public and media relations, and internal communications for this leading financial services firm.

According to the company’s website, CRC works on various scales from assisting small, beachfront towns to critically important, health care facilities to large corporations. Smaller communities may be confronted with serious beach erosion and storm-water management problems. Health care providers will need to remain open and functioning during storm events to care for the sick and injured. For multinational companies, CRC experts critically evaluate such climate-related issues as: Availability of raw materials; location of factories (are they in areas particularly threatened by climate impacts); availability of alternative energy supplies and water resources; logistics and shipping (vulnerability of supply chains); and, regulatory and legal changes occurring now and on the horizon.
