Sellinger EMBA Aims to Hire More Than Just One Youth
Stacy Wirth, an EMBA candidate from the Sellinger School of Business, is trying to make a difference for inner-city youth with job opportunities. She is a corporate ambassador for the Baltimore City Mayor’s Hire One Youth initiative, and organization that helps corporations in the region offer paid internships to inner city youth.
Hire One Youth prescreens job applicants for skills and interests, and provides a minimum of six hours of job readiness training to each applicant before referring them to your company for interviews, and looks to engage 16-21-year-olds who are responsible, motivated and engaged. Hire One Youth provides a job coach available throughout the summer employment period to assist with making the experience mutually beneficial.
If your company’s entry-level positions require specialized or hard-to-find skills, Hire One Youth can be an excellent way to prepare your ideal candidate for future job openings. Some employers use Hire One Youth as a paid training opportunity that can lead to a more permanent hire down the line.
