Awards Season at Robert H. Smith School of Business

MBA Scholars

Toward the end of each academic year, the Robert H. Smith School of Business honors top MBA students and business school faculty by presenting an array of awards. These awards celebrate various accomplishments, achievements, acknowledgments, and milestones to students and faculty alike.Full-time MBA students at the annual MBA End-of-Year Banquet on May 12, 2016, at the College Park Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. According to the Smith School, students nominate their classmates and professors for the awards and a committee of students, faculty and administrators selects the recipients.

Second-Year MBA Awards:

  • Community Development: Talel Aissi and Meera Deva
  • Brand Ambassador: Tiffany Chang and Molley Hardin
  • Career Contributor: Sarah Evangelista, Adriana Kao and Andres Reyes
  • Classroom Contributor: Karunakar Pottim
  • Impact Award: Simeon Andre, Steven Davis, and Tony Uhl
  • MVP: Allison Davern

First-Year MBA Awards:

  • Rising Star: Andres Gonzales, Riddhi Kumar and Laura Russo
  • Impact Award: Ashish Agarwal and Takeru Miyachi
  • MVP: Gabrielle Kuey and Kevin Hannigan

Faculty and Staff Awards:

  • Most Effective Core Professors: Rachelle Sampson and Charles Olson
  • Most Effective Elective Professors: Wendy Moe, Sarah Kroncke and Vijaya Venkatarmani
  • Most Engaged Professors: S. Lele and Joe Bailey
  • SMITH Faculty Award: Mike Faulkender
  • Staff Excellence & Engagement Award: Caroline Lukich and Kecia Hansard

In addition to these awards, the school honored outstanding faculty and staff members with awards of excellence, such as the The Allen J. Krowe Award for Teaching Excellence, the Legg Mason Teaching Innovation Award, and the CIBER Award for Teaching Innovation in Global Learning. The awards were presented at the School Assembly on May 6, 2016.

The Allen J. Krowe Award for Teaching Excellence is bestowed upon only the very best instructors at Smith. Recipients are chosen based on nominations and teaching evaluations by the school’s Teaching Enhancement Committee. Krowe, a distinguished alumnus of both the business school and the university, established the awards in 1986 to recognize and promote excellence in teaching.
