Carey MBA/MA in Design Leadership Highlighted By Financial Times Report

art

The MBA/MA in Design Leadership offered by the Carey Business School and the Maryland Institute College of Art was recently mentioned in the Financial Times as a program that merges the disciplines of design and business training.

FT introduces Amy Whitaker — a woman with both a MFA from University College London’s Slade School and an MBA from Yale’s School of Management — as an example of someone who has both a degree in art and in business states,

The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and Maryland Institute College of Art offer a joint MBA/MA in Design Leadership, for instance. The Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve and the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto have integrated the disciplines of design into their curriculums, while Chicago Booth has a visiting artist that teaches MBA and other masters students how the creative process can be translated into innovative thinking for the corporate world.

Students enrolled in the MBA/MA in Design Leadership program will “master creative approaches to strategic decision-making” and learn how to apply these skills to the most complex management challenges and business opportunities. This special program offers an opportunity for students to earn two degrees at the same time for less money and in less time: a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Art (MA) from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).

The opportunity is indeed a unique one: MBA/MA in Design Leadership is the only program in the United States where students simultaneously work to earn graduate degrees from both a business school at a major research university and a major college of art and design, both of which are recognized globally among the most innovative institutions.

The program can be completed in 20 months and is cohort-based. Students learn through hands-on experiences that immerse them in real-world situations, which helps develop strategy formulation, audience targeting, research, and design thinking that’s driven by a collaborative and creative approach to problem solving.
