Cameron Students Gain Hands On Experience at New York Conference

Cameron business students

Students from the University of St. Thomas – Cameron School of Business were recently given the opportunity to join their professor, Dr. C. Joe Ueng, for a business conference and competition in New York City.

The Quinnipiac G.A.M.E. VII Forum took place at the end of March in New York, inviting more than 200 high-profile investors and analysts—such as Goldman Sachs’ president and JP Morgan’s Chief Financial Strategist—and over 1,500 students from across the country.

Six Cameron Business students joined their professor to experience the conference and learn directly from these high-impact business leaders. Several of the students who attended are a part of Ueng’s Financial Management course, offered to both MBA students and those in the Masters of Science in Finance program. Students on the trip not only got the chance to attend the conference, but also joined Ueng for a tour of Barclays’ headquarters.

According to Ueng, students in the Financial Management course tackle a wide variety of topics, and attending the conference allows them to see these many aspects of finance function in real time. The students attending the conference were also given the opportunity for networking, even leading to one student procuring an internship for the coming summer.

CSB provides many opportunities for students to earn hands-on experience in the business industry—even if they can’t make the trip to New York. Assistant professor in finance, Dr. Chih-Huei “Debby” Su, was recently given the opportunity to also take her students on a trip—leading the CSB team for the ACG Cup to the case competition’s finals in Dallas.

The competition, which allows MBA and MSF students to gain direct knowledge into investment banking and other topics within the finance industry, gathered together teams from eleven graduate schools and more than 250 finance industry experts. As finalists, the CSB team walked away with $1000 and the gain exposure to job opportunities.
