Mays Student Willie Dennis, Alumni Honored for Hard Work

Mays Student Willie Dennis

Current students and alumni at the Texas A&M University – Mays Business School have been honored for their for their leadership and commitment to Mays.

Willie Dennis, a full-time MBA candidate in the Class of 2018, was named as a 2017 recipient of the Texas Business Hall of Fame (TBHF) scholarship, which awarded him $15,000. Guidelines for the scholarship require students who exhibit an entrepreneurial spirit, strong leadership both in-and-outside of the classroom and a strong academic record. Recipients were selected after a nomination and then interview round.

“His valuable insight in the classroom is matched only by his commitment to getting a well-rounded education,” said Amber Acosta, associate director of the full-time MBA program, of Dennis’ work as an MBA student. “Everything Willie does, he strives to do his absolute best, I have no doubt that Willie will be in the Texas Business Hall of Fame someday.”

Three Mays alumni were also recognized recently among the ten recipients of this year’s Distinguished Alumni award. The award, which is the highest honor a graduate of Texas A&M University can receive, was given to: Jorge A. Bermúdez ’73, Craig Brown ’75 and William M. “Bill” Huffman ’53.

“The 2017 Distinguished Alumni demonstrate the impact Texas A&M has on the state, nation and world,” commented Texas A&M President Michael K. Young on the honor. “This group includes incredible leaders and influencers in the fields of engineering, construction, real estate, international and national defense, law, finance, education and philanthropy. Their stories truly display the power of a Texas A&M University education.”

Recipients of the award will be honored during the annual Distinguished Alumni Gala this September, sponsored by the Association of Former Students. They will also be recognized during a Texas A&M Football game against South Carolina on Sept. 30.
