Rice MBA Alum Promotes Quality Family Time New Subscription Box

An MBA alum from the Rice University – Jones Graduate School of Business has combined her passion for quality family time with her entrepreneurial skills to create a new subscription box for busy parents.

Iman Farrior, a full-time MBA student who graduated earlier this year, often found it difficult to connect creatively with her three young daughters—all under the age of four—while busy attending business school. Planning and executing a project from scratch while earning her MBA seemed impossible.

Thankfully, Farrior and fellow Rice MBA classmate Corey Grodner were able to put their entrepreneurial knowledge to work. Together, they founded Funplugit, a new monthly subscription service offering families ready-to-go creative projects that are all unplugged from technology.

The Funplugit projects encourage families to spend unplugged quality time together, and do not require cell phones or any gadgets to complete. Projects might include things like homemade soap, game boards, musical instruments, magnetic slime, homemade lamps, kaleidoscopes, piggy banks and pen holders among many more. Subscriptions are just $20 per month and $10 for bulk orders.

Farrior’s commitment to her children and quality family time is a common challenge for those with such an extensive professional background. In addition to being a full-time MBA student in 2017, Farrior has also earned a B.S. in Management and Business Law and a J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law.

“In addition to every other parenting duty and finding time to keep yourself together, it can feel almost impossible to make any kind of quality time like that happen regularly,” Farrior said in a recent interview. “It is important to my husband and me to spend time with our children laughing, learning and creating.”
