C.T. Bauer Tech Entrepreneurs to Pitch Startup Ideas at Bayou Startup Showcase

Bayou Startup Showcase

This August, the RED Labs accelerator program at the University of Houston – C.T. Bauer College of Business will partner with Rice University’s OwlSpark to host the annual Bayou Startup Showcase, inviting UH students, alumni and faculty to pitch startup ideas to the Houston entrepreneurship community.

The Bayou Startup Showcase is a collaboration between the RED Labs accelerator program at Bauer and the OwlSpark program at Rice University. This summer, both accelerators shared space at DesignHive, an “alt-office” space that encourages firms across a variety of fields to work collaboratively. The showcase will be the final step in a 12-week program that teams from both accelerators have been participating in.

At the University of Houston, RED Labs serves as a startup accelerator, technology entrepreneurship program and co-working space. The labs are supported through the school’s Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship and help to turn the startup ideas of faculty, students and alumni into successful ventures.

During the showcase, teams will have the opportunity to pitch their startup ideas to the Houston tech entrepreneurship community in an open, public event. The teams cover a wide variety of industries and sectors. Just among the RED Labs Teams, startups range from Inter-ONE, a software service which helps restaurants consolidate information among several third party orderings services, to Core Simulations, a combination of physical therapy and virtual reality that aims to entertain while also treating.

“We’re excited for RED Labs Class 5 startups to share their companies with the startup community,” RED Labs Managing Director Kelly McCormick said in a recent announcement. “This event gives them the opportunity to implement what they’ve learned during the 12-week course, working toward prospects to further their businesses.”
