“Business in Capitals” Immersion Takes MBA@American Online Students to Brussels

Online Kogod Brussels

Last month, a group of Kogod School of Business students took part in an academic and a cultural immersion to Brussels, Belgium. The study experience was the first official MBA@American international trip, bringing together 60 MBA candidates from across the country to explore the European business landscape.

The Business in Capitals immersion, part of the online MBA@American program, offers students the chance to expand on their online studies and learn in an entirely new setting, lasting three to four days. Students are required to complete two immersions during their program.

“The immersions are eye-opening opportunities because they get students out of their day-to-day lives,” Maureen Breslin, Director of Partner Facing Online Programs, said in a recent story. “They offer the opportunity to network with classmates, learn, and have cross-cultural experiences.”

After a trip to European Parliament, the group visited MindGate, a business region located in Leuven, about 25 kilometers east of Brussels. There, students learned about different local and international organizations, and toured different businesses. Students met with company representatives and learned about the challenges they face.

It wasn’t all work, no play in Belgium. Students still had time to visit local cultural sites and explore Brussels though walking tours, and visits to breweries and chocolate factories.

Students on the trip agreed that the Brussels trip was an all-encompassing experience that exposed them to a foreign business landscape, and encouraged them to embrace new perspectives. “Seeing how other people are exploring business’ opportunities and challenges gets students thinking about the amazing opportunities out there,” Breslin said. “I can’t wait for what’s to come for our students.”

The trip was part of Kogod’s Online MBA program. According to Kogod, the program is designed for domestic and global business professionals who want to start or advance their careers across the broad domain of business, including accounting, finance, marketing, international business and analytics, in preparation for a managerial career path.

Upcoming international immersions sponsored by MBA@American include Mexico City (September 2017), Madrid (June 2018) and Seoul (September 2018).
