The Texas A&M University – Mays Business School will serve as host for the university’s first-ever healthcare analytics case competition, partnering with Humana Inc. to showcase student’s analytic ability.

The case competition will accept submissions until October 27, and then select five finalists to present their analyses to an executive panel at Mays in November. Students in full-time accredited Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Information Systems, Master of Public Health, or MBA programs across the United States are eligible to enter.

Students will be responsible for analyzing a real-world business problem and using their analytic abilities to evaluate the situation and develop a solution. Their analyses will be judged on several key factors, such as the success of a quantitative analysis identifying key business insights and the ability to provide unique insights for improving a business. The first place team will be awarded a prize of $6,000, while second and third place will receive $3,000 and $1,500, respectively.

The competition will be presented through a partnership with Humana Inc., a well-being company that aims to provide health care that can improve the lives of its members while keeping costs low. Humana provides support for physicians and health care professionals to provide the best possible care for their patients, utilizing techniques such as pharmacy services, data analytics and other resources and tools.

“It feels great to partner with an institution—Texas A&M, my alma mater—that played such a pivotal role in my career development,” said Bruce Broussard, President and CEO of Humana.

“Health care analytics are increasingly being prioritized for their positive impact on shaping health care. Therefore, it is important to provide students with real-life scenarios and opportunities to challenge and shape them as professionals,” he added.
