Sellinger Dean Named One of Maryland’s Top 100 Women

Earlier this month, The Daily record named Karyl B. Leggio, dean of the Sellinger School of Business, one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women. The award recognizes outstanding achievement by women as demonstrated through “professional accomplishments, community leadership and mentoring.”

Leggio has led the Sellinger School since 2008—since coming on board with the school, she has put new programs into place, including Loyola’s first accredited accelerated MBA program, the Emerging Leaders MBA, a Masters in Accounting program and an accounting certificate program.

She has also helped in the creation of the Student Experiential Learning Lab (SELL) to educate students on the use of financial databases such as Bloomberg, Reuters Eikon, Morningstar and S&P Capital IQ. Students have used these databases to manage a portion of Loyola University’s endowment.

Leggio has received grants for research projects, developed customized executive education offerings, designed curriculum and developed centers for excellence and partners in the business community.

In addition to her service to Sellinger, Leggio sits on the following boards: the Archdiocese of Baltimore Archbishop’s Board of Financial Advisors, the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, the Downtown Partnership, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the International Association of Jesuit Business Schools and BB&T in Baltimore.

Ultimately, Leggio’s lasting impact to Kogod could be boiled down to her focus on strengthening the Sellinger School’s external relations and preparing students with career and life planning. The Sellinger School is actively engaged in assisting in Loyola University’s York Road initiative in the Govans area and is active in supporting the innovation community.
