George Washington School of Business Prof. Received Competitive Manuscript Award
According to a press release on the GWSB website, the American Accounting Association (AAA) has presented George Washington School of Business Assistant Professor Youli Zou with its 2015 Competitive Manuscript Award. Zou received this honor for her manuscript, “Strategic Entry Decisions, Accounting Signals, and Risk Management Disclosure.”
Zou’s research focuses on the effect of various stakeholders such as competitors, employees and large shareholders on firms’ financial reporting incentives. Her award-winning paper examines strategic entry decisions in response to competitors’ cash flow hedging outcomes and related disclosure in the airline industry using an innovative identification strategy.
The Competitive Manuscript Award was created to encourage research among AAA regular, life, and student members who have earned their doctorate degree within the past five years. The winner is chosen annually in a blind review by the AAA Competitive Manuscript Award Committee. According to the AAA, award winners must fit the following criteria:
- Any subject matter in the field of accounting is proper for inclusion.
- Manuscripts must generally conform to the style and length requirements of The Accounting Review.
- Co-authored papers are not eligible.
- Previously published manuscripts, or those submitted for publication to journals other than The Accounting Review before the contest decision, are not eligible.
