Rice Entrepreneurship Initiative Makes Business Education University-Wide

In an economy with increasing opportunities for those skilled in entrepreneurship, Provost Marie Lynn Miranda of Rice University has announced the new Rice Entrepreneurship Initiative, a new opportunity for cross-disciplinary collaboration across the university. Led by Yael Hochberg, Associate Professor Entrepreneurship at the Rice University Jones Graduate School of Business, the initiative will provide both cirricular and co-curricular activities to prepare students for a host of entrepreneurial opportunities, from starting your own business to managing personal finances. Moreover, the initiative will tailor itself the needs of each student- whether undergraduate, graduate, MBA or Executive MBA, each class will provide both theory and the opportunity for real-life application of the skills learned in the classroom.

According to initiative leader Yael Hochberg, “Rice’s combination of top-tier engineering and sciences, strong business school and vibrant humanities along with a very creative student body create a natural environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Hochberg has been teaching at Rice since 2013, and serves in a number of leadership roles, including academic director of the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship, host of the world’s largest student startup competition. According to a the UBI Index, a Swedish research initiative, the Rice alliance is the No. 1 university business incubator worldwide.

Hochberg emphasised her belief that entrepreneurship is a field that requires learning through practice, not just theory. Along with the initiative’s director Abby Larson, Hochberg has made Rice students, faculty and staff aware that she is available for anyone who would like to be involved.
