Jones School Named Among Best Programs in Global MBA Ranking

The Rice University – Jones Graduate School of Business has recently been ranked among the top schools in the world in the Financial Times 2016 Global MBA ranking.

The Jones School and University of Texas at Austin: McCombs are the only Texas schools to have made the global ranking, placing at #47 and #53, respectively. The Jones School is down ten spots from its 2015 ranking of #43. Compared against other schools in the United States, the Jones School comes in at #25.

This year’s first place slot went to Insead, located in France/Singapore, marking the first time that a “one-year” MBA has led the ranking. The other four schools in the list’s ‘Top 5’ — Havard Business School, London Business School, the Wharton School, and Stanford Graduate School of Business — have all led the list in past years.

This year’s ranking included nine new schools, seven of which had appeared prior, though not in 2015, and two of which were present for the very first time. The highest new entrant was the Renmin University of China School of Business, at 43rd place.

A look at the 2016 data also reveals a promising new trend — an increase in the portion of women studying at ranked schools. In 2015, women made up 35% of MBA students, increased from just 30% in 2005. Last year, 27 of the ranked schools revealed a proportion of more than 40% female MBA students.
The Financial Times ranking looked at a vast number of features to determine each school’s position, including the percent of female students/faculty, salary received after graduation, the effectiveness of school career services, and the number of doctoral graduates each year, in addition to many others.
