Columbia Places First in Friendfactor Challenge

For the second year in a row, Columbia Business School placed first in the Friendfactor MBA Ally Challenge. The Friendfactor MBA Ally Challenge is a friendly competition among business schools to build the largest and most impactful ally initiatives they can over the course of the school year.

In 2012 Friendfactor presented MBA student leaders with a challenge to build the largest and most impactful ally initiatives they could over the course of the school year. Six top schools took up the challenge. They activated over 900 MBA students and transformed the culture at their schools. The participating schools raised awareness about LGBT issues by an average of 19 percent, and improved the inclusiveness of campus culture by an average of 24 percent.

Start Up Spotlight: Kellogg Alum Makes Buying Jewelry on the Web Easy

Company Featuring Kellogg Students Develops New Cancer Treatment

Medical-device startup Innoblative has changed the game in the treatment of breast cancer. The eight-member company, which includes five students from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, medical, engineering and law schools, has developed a disposable, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) probe that uses thermal energy to treat a surgical cavity, such as that made after removal of a breast tumor.

Kellogg Presents Award to Leadership Behind Jack Daniel’s

Board Chairman G. Garvin Brown IV and CEO Paul C. Varga of Brown-Forman, the family-first spirit and wine company best known for Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey accepted the Kellogg School of Management’s 2014 Family Enterprise Leadership Award in front of an audience of faculty, practitioners and students.

The Brown family originally brought in Varga as an intern at the company. He worked his way up the corporate ladder for 19 years before being named CEO of the previously family-led company in 2005.  Continue reading…
