Rutgers Real Estate Clubs Prosper with Help from Center for Real Estate Studies

The Rutgers Real Estate Club was established with the purpose of educating the student body on the Real Estate industry.  The Club is a place for people interested in Real Estate, Internships and Business in general to come together and learn from experienced speakers in the industry and from each other. Over the past three years, the club has invited real estate professionals to talk about their experience at the club’s three to four events held every semester. The club’s connections have also helped some of the club members to get internships with some of the city’s leading companies.

Although the club was established before the Center for Real Estate Studies, the two have come together to help provide the Rutgers community with real estate education, internship opportunities and career guidance to help develop real estate industry leaders. The center is helping to fund the student real estate clubs in Newark and in New Brunswick and guide the clubs toward success.

The center has contributed $3,000 to the New Brunswick club that was established during the Fall Semester. That contribution has helped the club of 20 students pay for meetings with industry experts and take trips into Manhattan for property tours of newly developed commercial properties.

The New Brunswick club will also be hosting speakers from Prudential Real Estate Investors; Michael Schonberger, an adjunct professor who has taught real estate finance at Rutgers for several years; and a panel of real estate professionals who will discuss real estate topics this Spring.

The center was founded 18 months ago by Ronald M. Shapiro, who also serves as the executive director. The center is co-chaired by Carl J. Goldberg and James E. Hanson. This semester, students are completing real estate finance courses, while the center continues to develop real estate curriculum that will provide additional courses in real estate development and valuation. These new course will be offered in fall 2015. The center is also planning two real estate student career fairs at the end of April and a major real estate conference on May 1.
