Sawyer Global MBA Students Blog From the Frontlines of International Business

Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School Global MBA students are traveling and working around the world this summer, completing a cornerstone of the program’s curriculum: their three month professional internship. Sawyer’s Global MBA program requires its full-time students to complete this internship (part-time students can opt for a 7-10 day Global Travel Seminar) in addition to requiring them to complete courses in international marketing or finance that complement their standard MBA studies.

This summer, Sawyer Global MBA student interns can be found  in a variety of countries, including Turkey, Scotland, and China, but many have stayed connected to the greater Sawyer community by blogging about their experiences. Students update colleagues (and curious blog visitors) about their internships. Many of the students’ reflections consider how abstract concepts about the global economy and workplace have come to life during their work abroad, driving home Sawyer Global MBA mottos like “Globally Focused Curriculum” and “Educated in Boston. Ready for the World.”

David Lee, a Sawyer Global MBA student, is a regular contributor to the blog. He is living in Beijing this summer and interning at an investment banking firm, JFP Holdings. His posts have focused on what it’s like to live in the midst of China’s enormous urban population and, more importantly for the purposes of his MBA study, grasping the potential in the Chinese marketplace for international businesses and entrepreneurs. Actually living in China, commuting to work, and interacting with the population he had previously only read about has given him incomparable insight into China as a marketplace. His experience demonstrates that the Sawyer’s Global MBA program and its required internship send graduates into the international workforce with their eyes wide open.
