Suffolk University to Host Discussion on DOMA Repeal’s Influence on Business

Have you wondered how the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn DOMA could affect your future access to benefits, your business, or your professional life in business? Next month, Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School will host a panel discussion and question and answer session about the influence of the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act on businesses. The event will cover how the ruling affects the workplace, with topics including discrimination, employee benefits, and immigration.

The event will be co-hosted by the Mass Equality Education Fund, Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders in Boston (GLAD), Northeast Human Resources Association (NEHRA), and Suffolk University’s Center for Executive Education. The panel will feature Katherine Perrielli, a Partner at Seyfarth Shaw LLP; John Basile, the Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion at Fidelity Investments; and Nancy Stager, the Executive Vice President of Human Resources at Eastern Bank. The panel will be moderated by Michele Whitham, who is a partner at Foley Hoag LLP.

Janson Wu will give an introduction for the panel. Wu is a staff attorney for GLAD, whose main focus is transgender rights in New England. He also serves on the Legal Committee of the World Professional Organization for Transgender Health, and the vice chair of the Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity Committee of the Individual Rights and Responsibilities section of the American Bar Association.

The discussion will take place on November 20 from 8:00 to 9:30 am. The event is open to the public and admission is $40. The event will occur in Sargent Hall on the Suffolk University campus. You can register to attend it here.
